While conventional seismic methods offer the best means to map the geology of sub-surface structures and observe interfaces between different rock formations, EM waves have the ability to clearly identify reservoir fluids (hydrocarbon or water) better than seismic waves.
EM data acquired in combination with seafloor seismic data is considered more accurate in determining hydrocarbon probability.
The MultiField system combines the strengths of both seismic and EM in this unified approach.
•
One combined vessel required for the acquisition of both seismic and EM data
•
Continuous quality control of EM and seismic data recorded on board the vessel
•
Improved electrical field recording sensitivity with long antennas and short receiver spacing
•
Only one horizontal component of the electric field needed to detect hydrocarbon since the cable orientation is known
•
Improved interpretation (inversion and imaging) through integration of seafloor seismic and both electric and magnetic data acquired along the same profile
